Securing an iPad for Kid-Friendly Use – Guided Access
Guided Access on an iPad is a feature designed to help users focus on a specific app by restricting access to other parts of the device. It can be useful for when want to limit distractions or accidental exits for a child using an app
How Guided Access Works:
Limits iPad to a single app: When Guided Access is enabled, users can only use the app that’s currently open. Exiting or switching apps is restricted.
Disables certain hardware buttons: You can choose to disable the Home button (if your iPad has one), volume buttons, or even the touch screen in specific areas.
Time limits: You can set a time limit for how long the Guided Access session lasts.
Control over certain features: You can control whether features like motion and touch input are available within the app.
How to Enable Guided Access on iPad:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access.
Toggle Guided Access on.
Tap Passcode Settings to set a passcode that controls the use of Guided Access and prevents someone from leaving the app.
You can also enable Face ID or Touch ID for ending Guided Access sessions.
How to Use Guided Access:
Open the app you want to use.
Triple-click the Home button (or the Top button on newer iPads without a Home button).
Adjust any settings you want, such as disabling parts of the screen or turning off motion controls.
Tap Start to begin the session.
To end the session, triple-click the Home button (or the Top button) and enter the passcode or use Face ID/Touch ID.
